MY EXPERIENCE

In 2003, I started studying with Pia Mellody at The Meadows in Wickenburg, Arizona. I completed all of her Post Induction Therapy training workshops and continued to regularly train with her at her Couples' Boundary Workshops. I now specialize in leading workshops in my private practice for individuals with trauma using Pia Mellody's PIT method that investigates the origins of adult dysfunctional behaviors. I have been conducting these workshops for 12 years in my private practice. I encourage other therapists learning this model to "sit in" on my Healing Our Core Issues workshops to deepen their understanding of the model. I also offer phone consultation groups on a monthly basis using her PIT model.  I started in 2013 the "Healing Our Core Issues Institute" in partnership with my colleague Dr. Rick Butts.  We now offer on-going professional trainings for therapists wanting to learn the Post Induction Model.

I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) which is a type of trauma work created by Peter Levine. Somatic Experiencing (SE) gently moves and heals stored trauma in the body. It deactivates the negative energy and promotes settling in the nervous system that creates space and capacity for energy to move through the body rather than to be stuck. I also use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) which is useful for desensitizing invasive images and experiences that accompany trauma and PTSD. I combine Post Induction Therapy, Somatic Experiencing and EMDR in effectively working with my clients to heal and alleviate the pain from trauma in their life and relationships.

From 2002 to 2006, I studied with Terry Real at the Relational Life Institute, Arlington, MA. I completed all of his training, including the
advanced levels. I also “coached” other therapists in his model during that time. The Institute is dedicated to providing men and women, the insight and the tools to recover the state of wholeness and connectedness in their significant partner relationship. I continue to use this model in my couples work to help repair and create intimacy.

During my 22-year career, I have had the pleasure of working with other great teachers and mentors such as Brugh Joy, MD (Heart Centering Work) and Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D (Mindfulness Practice) and I incorporate their teachings in my private practice.

I have been in private practice for 22 years working with individuals and couples. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and have a master’s degree in counseling psychology. I enjoy my work and bring my years of experience and expertise to all my clients.
"Jan has supported me with both
couples and individual work.
For the most part, I see her with my spouse however, Jan creates an
environment where each partner is
also doing deep work on their
individual self while in
couples sessions.
At the beginning of my
work with Jan, I made
deep progress on my individual self
when I attended a 3-day workshop.
In this workshop, Jan used Pia Mellody's work to help me explore my Family of Origin and my wounded and adaptive child and through this work, I was able to begin developing my functional adult. Since then,
Jan has supported me with these tools as I truly grow into an adult at 45 years old."
