Couples Work

My work with couples follow the models of Pia Mellody and
Terrence Real. Pia is an author of three best selling books one on Co-Dependence, another on Love Avoidance and Love Addiction and her latest on Healthy Boundaries in relationship. Terry is also an author of three best selling books one on Male Depression and the other books on Couple's Work.

Using these methodologies with couples creates positive changes within a few months. Couples start experiencing more connection in the relationship through the practice of using healthy boundaries and learning new skills. These therapies are unique and extraordinarily effective.

A couple will begin to understand the vicious cycle that keeps them stuck in relationship, which results in building walls, distance, loneliness and frustration. In my work with couples, they get a clearer understanding of the old learned behaviors from their family of origin and how these patterns keep them stuck.  Then, I teach ways to find new behaviors that create more satisfaction and intimacy in their relationship. Ultimately through this practice, couples make choices to move from habitual behaviors (relational patterns from past) to new learned and healthy functional behaviors. The relationship grows into and  becomes more about mutual sharing and intimacy rather than a vicious alienating cycle.

I offer intensive sessions for couples looking to improve or save their relationship. Most sessions require a two hour period every two or three weeks apart. I also offer full day intensive sessions for couples. A typical intensive day long session would be 10am until 5pm with an hour long lunch break. My private practice hours are Monday through Friday, hours of 8am until 6pm.  I also offer video web conferencing sessions using Skype.

There is homework given between sessions that range from reading books, listening to CD's, journaling, medical consultations, attending AA, Alanon or SLA meetings, or attending a specific workshop that furthers growth and healing.
